Shuttle debris may be coated
Shuttle debris may be coated in a rocket fuel called "hydrazine", which is toxic if you touch it, which is one of the reasons the gov't is advising people not to touch debris. Here's some stuff about hydrazine:
- simple explanation
- 1948 NACA (NASA-predecessor) report about using it as a fuel
- report about replacing hydrazine with ethanol and oxygen on space vehicles.
