Email spam just turned 25.

Email spam just turned 25. Also, the origins of the usage of "spam". -amy

We tracked down what is apparently the first Usenet mention of "spam" to describe unwanted electronic messages -- the article talks about it. "Spam" is referenced only in the subject header, not in the message body. But it seems like people were aware of spam as a descriptor well before this. Lots of people posting to usenet would add "spam" to their email address to deflect incoming traffic (it seems). -adm
