Lots of Matrix stuff in
Lots of Matrix stuff in this post.
- Albinos are upset about the way they are portrayed in the Matrix Reloaded. Warner Bros says: "Yeah, but, those aren't albinos. They're dead people." [very minor spoilers in the article]
- Meanwhile, Salon reviews the movie. Sounds like they liked it. [click through ads]...But Slate hates it, and, in a very well written review which also summarizes Matrix epistemology, the NYer laments its lack of depth. Gopnik says it feels more like Matrix XIV than Matrix II.
- Also Matrix-wise: NYT has a review of the related video game, "Enter the Matrix", which had a $20 million budget but, they say, is disappointing and top-heavy. (By comparison, LA Times has an anticipatory story/review on the forthcoming Star Wars online role-playing game.)
- LAT profiles XYZ-RGB, the scientific company responsible for the film's special effects. [reg req'd]
- Here's Matriksoxide, a cut from Bizzart that looks at the Matrix through a hip-hop lens [mp3]. Came out in 2001, but it's topical. More Bizzart.
- Also, if you're thinking about robots and artificial intelligence, the NYT discusses "Hybrot", a robot that is wired to the brain of a rat (sort of). Could it be that Artificial Intelligence won't be artificial? Here's one of the robots they hooked the rat brain cells up to. Here's the official press release about the experiment.
