What with California being the

What with California being the most fictitious of states, holding a seemingly fictitious election, it only makes sense that a fictitious character has made his way into the race: Reebok's spokesperson Terry Tate, who doesn't actually exist, is on the ballot, in a manner of speaking [nyt]. Given the presence of the other joke candidates in the election -- Angelyne, Gary Coleman, Mary Carey, and even Ahnold -- it's really not surprising, which says a lot about the state of affairs over there. Also notable is that, of course, his campaign is being "overseen" by a corporation (Reebok), which perhaps isn't so different from the situation with most other political candidates.
