The only Oscar that Orson
The only Oscar that Orson Welles won for Citizen Kane was almost sold by Christie's, but they withdrew it from an auction yesterday because of objections from the Academy, who claimed the right to buy it back for $1. [nyt] The story of the statue's succession of owners could almost be a movie in its own right.
