Water-filled Yo-Yo balls: the new trucker hat.
In reporting on the phenomenon and dangers of these springy, rubbery toys filled with murky fluid, the Washington Post inadvertently supplies further evidence to support the truism that trends start in NY and LA and die there just as they begin sweeping the rest of the country. Although the toy may be epidemic elsewhere, the kids where I work were done with these things like 4 months ago. And yet, when I gave one to my little nephew in Connecticut just as they were dying out here, no one he knew had ever seen one before.
So this weekend, I'm giving him a trucker hat, and he'll be the hippest 6-year-old in town.
