Maybe you heard about the

Maybe you heard about the Doonesbury flap last week at the Chicago Tribune, in which editors initially refused to run an edition of the strip that used the word "sucking." Well, the Richmond Times-Dispatch -- the newspaper that brainy grads of southern liberal arts colleges love to hate ("This is why I read The Post!") -- solved the problem: they changed "sucking" to "stinking." Mayhem ensued, getting Funky Winkerbean caught in the crossfire. The article also discusses readers' angry, but amusing, reactions to several other recent strips the paper has run. [via romenesko]
