New Hampshire: Live Free or Die
A libertarian group called the Free State Project has decided to target New Hampshire as the site for a new "autocratic territory" free from many social controls. They want 20,000 people to move there, to create a significant voting population (and increase the state population by over 2%) and live free of laws regulating guns, prostitution, marriage, drugs, and taxes. Read about the many advantages New Hampshire offers as our nation's most libertarian state here [pdf].
While NH certainly does have its share of libertarians, mostly living in the state's sparsely-populated mountain region (ahem), the Free Staters (who appear to be a well-educated, politically-minded bunch of people from all over the world) might not fit in so well with the locals. Whiskas comments, "I find it very amusing that all these "college educated, $60k-making" individuals seriously think that the NH "libertarians" (read: sociopaths) are actually going to welcome 20,000 of them into the state."
The selection of NH was announced at a special Free State Party meeting, held at the 1050 Restaurant at the Skyline Hotel on 10th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen. Classy bunch, those libertarians.
