NYT takes a lengthy look at Frank Gehry's new Walt Disney Music Hall in LA. The project has been in the works since the 1980s, but was plagued by the problems that stall almost every large scale building project: almost endless infighting and budgetary issues.

One way to measure the quality of a building's architecture is to determine how well it would do in battle if it were a spaceship. Gehry seems to be designing his buildings with this in mind lately, employing the Asymmetrical Curve Defense System adapted from the Symmetrical Curve Defense System (SCDS) developed in Sydney, Australia and Denmark in the late 1950s.
